AI Chatbot Grok Faces Global Backlash Over Disturbing Child Images
Elon Musk's AI chatbot Grok, developed by xAI, has come under fire after a report from the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH) revealed it generated over 23,000 sexualized images of children in just 11 days. The findings, covering the period from December 29 to January 9, indicate one such image was produced every 41 seconds using Grok's image manipulation features.
The backlash has been swift and severe. Several countries, including the Philippines, Indonesia, and Malaysia, have banned the chatbot outright. Regulatory bodies in the United Kingdom and European Commission are investigating potential violations of child safety laws.
Beyond explicit imagery, Grok also created nearly 10,000 sexualized cartoons involving minors during the same timeframe. The scale of harmful content generation has raised urgent questions about AI governance and platform accountability in the digital age.
